Business Arena has held the fifth edition of its annual Most Admired Business Women Awards Gala to honor achievements in the workplace by women executives and entrepreneurs in Romania. The event brought together the ladies that make a difference in various domains and who have brought their contribution to the Romanian economy throughout the years. Business Arena proudly recognizes the creativity and leadership of women and their vital contribution to the success of business and banking activities throughout Romania. Hosted by the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, the Gala was attended by around 170 guests, who enjoyed the festive atmosphere and fine moments of entertainment.

As a general trend, more and more women are entering the workforce worldwide, yet more needs to be done to advance women to senior leadership positions. According to a Grant Thornton report, based on the findings of a recent research by the International Business Report (IBR), in 2012, though women comprised over a third of the workforce in the United States, they held a mere 14.3 per cent of executive officer positions at Fortune 500 companies and only 8.1 per cent of executive officer top-earner positions. Of the FTSE 100, women held only 15 per cent of board seats and 6.6 per cent of executive positions in 2012. In the Asia Pacific region, the percentage of women on boards was about half that in Europe, Australia and North America.
The same report added that the promising news is that the number of women in leadership roles is growing. The IBR survey, which includes both listed and privately held businesses, indicates a three per cent increase in the number of women in senior management positions from 2011 to 2012, with 24 per cent of businesses with women in senior management roles globally in 2012 (compared to 21 per cent in 2011).
