EximBank expands to improve services for the business community

While many banks are still struggling to deal with the aftermath of the economic crisis, EximBank is boosting profits, expanding its territorial network and product portfolio. In an interview with Business Arena, Traian Halalai, the bank's Executive President, emphasizes the efforts made by the entire team at EximBank for the modernization of its products, services and operations. And he also outlines some bold new projects for the future.
What are EximBank’s most important accomplishments in 2015? 
This year, EximBank has focused on speeding up lending for the real economy, while expanding our client pool at the same time. We have also worked on developing integrated banking relationships with local companies. We have not only given priority to financing and guarantee business lines, but we have also focused on complementary banking services and on becoming a complete partner to Romanian companies. Our results come to confirm once again our commitment to support the Romanian business environment. At the end of September, based on preliminary data, of course, we recorded a net profit of 55 million lei, posting a 58 per cent increase compared to the first nine months of 2014, putting the combined net profit for 2013 – September 2015 at nearly 150 million lei. As for the bank’s assets, at the end of the first nine months of 2015 we saw a 16 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, based on the expansion of the loan portfolio. Thus, the loan exposure volume exceeded the January – September 2014 figure by 11 per cent.       
Also, following our efforts to improve the quality of our loan portfolio, the bank recorded a nonperforming loan rate of 3.3 per cent, compared to 3.9 per cent last year, and well below the 13 per cent average in the banking system. We continue to stay open to the business community, following the same solid and prudent path, which we see as a remarkable achievement, especially since we have taken the risk to boost support for the economy on difficult circumstances for the corporate financing market.    

What are the main elements that have helped the bank reach its objectives?
The general economic conditions in the last two years have represented a strategic challenge for us, doubled by the need for rapid and decisive action to exploit the extraordinary potential that EximBank has. Thus, 2015 has been a special year for the bank, as it brings about a radical change in our operations as compared to two years ago. It basically saw the relaunch of EximBank’s activity, marking the end of a complex process of modernization and adaptation of the bank’s products to current banking standards and practices, and most importantly, to customers’ demands.
